Nio’s compact EV sub-brand Firefly has reached 50,000 cumulative deliveries within 11 months of its first customer handovers, with the final 10,000 units delivered in just over two months. According to a March 29 announcement, deliveries began on April 29, 2025, with the brand reaching 10,000 units in July, 20,000 in September, 30,000 in November, and 40,000 on January 10, 2026 .
Why Firefly’s Delivery Pace Accelerated
The Firefly EV launched in China on April 19, 2025, in two variants priced between RMB 119,800 and RMB 125,800, equipped with a 42.1 kWh battery offering a CLTC-rated range of up to 420 km .
In Europe, the vehicle is on sale from €29,900 in the Netherlands, with a 105 kW rear motor and a WLTP range of approximately 330 km . The brand has maintained a tight lineup, using limited editions such as a 166-unit “Fresh Green” variant capped on March 20, rather than broad configuration expansion .
Overseas markets currently include approximately 10 countries, with plans to expand to nearly 40 markets across Europe, Southeast Asia, and beyond . The brand has already entered right-hand-drive markets including UK, Thailand and Singapore this year .
When Battery Swap Reaches Europe
A battery swap-enabled variant of the Firefly is scheduled to launch in May 2026 . The vehicle is compatible with Nio’s fifth-generation battery swap stations, which reduce swap time to under 100 seconds.
According to a March 2026 update, Nio is preparing pilot sites for V5 stations in Leipzig and Munich, with production ramping up at its Hungarian facility to accelerate expansion in Germany, Scandinavia, and the Benelux region .
If Nio deploys fifth-generation stations in European markets during 2026, Firefly will offer a charging alternative that no European competitor in the sub-€30,000 segment can match.
The question for European fleet managers and compact EV buyers is whether Nio’s European swap network will scale quickly enough to make five-minute battery replacement a practical reality rather than a technical promise.
